This morning, when I was on my way to Toa Payoh MRT Station, I saw some teenage girls dancing on stage. It is part of some Anti-Drugs… Youth… Singapore… dunno what. I don’t really recall.
I was amazed by their rubberized bodies, their fludity in following the rhythm, their expressions that can utter thousands words, and on top of all was… they really enjoyed it!!
It reminded me of an equally-rubberized dancer who happens to be one of my close friends (and who is my exact opposite in dancing). Her name is M****** M******. The stars follow her actual name, not the ‘-tje’ version. She was one of the dancers in PERHAPS LOVE The Musical.
During the dance practices, I spent hours (in total, in the duration of few months) to observe and try to digest about the dance movement. Never tried to imitate though… Never had enough courage to do that. May be when I was still in my mother’s womb there was some disturbances that caused my motoric sensors not really growing to the state that it should be. May be when its cells were forming, there was a troop of topeng monyet passing by…
Anyway, topeng monyet aside, I am 100% conscious to realize that dancing is really out of my dictionary. I think when I was in a ballet class (Sumber Cipta asuhan Farida Feisol, Tomang) I have made the hair of my instructor (Mr. Okky Sidharta) even curlier. Mind you, before I joined his class it was already the short version of Lenny Kravits. And afterwards, well… can you imagine? May be if I continue my dancing in any classes, I will definitely generate a juicier revenue for those beauty saloons who provide the hair rebonding services….
One of our dear friend, C****, once gave a very good suggestion to make me able to dance. Ridiculous though, but I guess it’s the only one to work out. OK, here we go… he kindly suggested to input and execute a defined function in my brain who will control the movement of each muscles. I wonder, any way to do it? Any USB ports in my body, anyone?
That already-ridiculous idea was exacerbated with my own. What’s that? I suggested that we also provide a closed loop control function. Hence, in the case that my body does some unintended movement (different from the function, that is) I’ll get automatically slapped or electrocuted…..

Dearest RHEA,
Dance is a ritual whereby the man leads the woman. It is not so much about an exercise or a test of your motor sensory.
In fact, the greater burden rests on the man's shoulder since he is the one leading. If a lady is to dance well, the credit goes largely to the man who leads her. If the dance turns out not so well, it is STILL largely the man's fault.
Our dance instructor told us that the lady is the car while the man is the driver. BUT, I prefer the analogy of a man and a horse. How a man handle & take care of the horse will determine how good or bad the horse turns out to be. The horse will run faster and longer distance if it is well taken care of.
The mythological figure of Sagitarius was spawned from stories told about a certain tribe whose specialities lies in their group of well-trained Horsemen. They are so good, agile and aggressive in attack that they seemed to be made of one body (man and the horse). Thus, the legendary Sagitarius is born.
Dance is about two bodies moving in unison. So, take comfort that it is more of the man's job to make the dance looks good. Never the lady's job to make it so.
As in all rituals, it is about developing faith and trust. In all dances, the lady has to trust every lead made by the man. As for the man, he must be decisive & firm in leading. The decisiveness and firmness come from the trust that the lady will just follow.
Dance also teaches us a lot about the relationship between man and woman.
1. Respect & Trust (it is never a time to get a fresh out of the girl).
2. Sensitivity & Care (As a pair practices, they tell each other to improve with +ve comments).
3. Only one lead at a time. Even though MAN leads in dance, you tend to develop an intuition that only one party can lead at any one time. If both try to assume the leading postion, the dance falls apart. So take turn to lead.
4. Many more I guess.... TO share with you once they popped into my mind.
Allo Rhe eehehe....gue tau blog loe dari ite. Dah lama pengen leave comment tapi lupa/gak sempet terus....so today is the day =P

Hi all
Thanks for the comments
Anyway, the 'dance' which I'm talking about here is dance in general.
including ballet, modern dance, and traditional dance (javanese, balinese, sumatranese etc.).
So it's not only those dance en pair. =)
Anyway, let alone dancing... even synchronizing my mind with the rythm of the music is an effort for me.... =P
