more ladies...

I am just relocated to my new office today. It is above the Gas Turbine Laboratory so there are funny smell and heat around it. Location wise, this new office is worse than my previous one as it's detached from the main buildings, which are interconnected by the infinite corridor. This means that you have to put on your complete winter gear whenever you want to go to another place, including when you want to buy lunch/dinner/coffee/cakes. However, some of the good things are: it's not directly opposite your professor's office, as before; and it has windows, i.e., daylight.

In that building (or at least among my project mates), offices with windows are given to those with more seniority: research fellows/engineers, and PhD candidates. Master students have no windows in their rooms. Funny, huh?

Sharing the office with me are two female students. When the project coordinator passed me the key and showed me around, she made an interesting remarks: "There are more and more female students in this project." Well, ALL new incoming students are female (at least in our project). According to her and one ex-student who has become a research engineer, this is the first time it happens. At least now I am no longer the minority, as was the case in my undergraduate and my first job.

Yea, for technology-related fields, female is pretty rare. In my class, usually there are only 2-3 female students. Sometimes even I'm the only girl. I would also like to see more girls in my fields =)

hey you are in maths right? i see lots of female math students here.. hehehe =D
why don't you try to continue your study here?
while getting funding at math dept at MIT is difficult, you can always try CDO (computations for design and optimization). it's a kind of applied math.
